Bringing Educational Resources To Schools In The Gambia
Richard Deveson, IS Technical Manager at Brett Group, recently embarked on a journey to The Gambia, West Africa, alongside Martin Tanner, Director at ADM Computing, to deliver vital educational resources to primary and secondary school children.
The initiative, set up by ADM Computing, provided 30 laptops to the villages of Nema and Kuntaya, with the pair working closely alongside students and staff to set up the new equipment and strengthen the pupils access to the new technology.

Richard commented: “Technology like this is often thrown away, but when donated it can open up new opportunities for children who might not otherwise have access to it.”
One stand-out moment from the trip took place on the day the laptops were delivered, reflecting on the day Richard said: “As soon as the boxes arrived, a quiet buzz went through the staff, quickly followed by an explosion of excitement from the students when they realised what was inside - for some of the pupils, it was the first time they had touched a laptop.”

Alongside the computer equipment, the students also received donated sports gear to enjoy, Richard explains: “I was also blown away by the generous donations from people at Brett who, when they heard about the trip, donated various football and rugby kits, as well as rugby balls for the kids and local community to enjoy.”

Richard put the sports gear to use as soon as he could, and began teaching the local children how to play rugby, he explains: “I live and breathe rugby - coaching is a huge part of my weekly routine. I couldn’t resist getting everyone involved, and once some initial confusion about the game had faded, the fun began. It was messy, energetic, slightly chaotic, and completely brilliant.”

Richard commented: “We have worked with ADM for many years and built a strong relationship in that time, and have seen first-hand the impact of their long-standing work in The Gambia.
“It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with Martin Tanner and support this important work that helps to create opportunities for young children and families.”
